Author Guidelines

The Editorial Office, Editorial Panel and reviewers of the “Russian Journal of Economics and Law”  Journal request the authors submitting articles for publication to observe the following rules when formatting their articles:

Requirements for the document formatting

The article should be submitted electronically by e-mail rusjel@ieml.ru or uploaded through the website . The electronic version is saved in Microsoft Word or RTF.

Recommended article size: 40,000. The minimum article size is at least 30,000 characters with spaces (without annotations and bibliography).

Font TimesNewRoman – 14 pt.

Line spacing – 1.5.

Indentation – 1.25cm.

Margins: bottom, top, left and right – 2 cm.

Pages should be numbered continuously.

All words within a paragraph are divided by one space.

Before a punctuation mark there should be no spacing and after a punctuation mark – one spacing.

The following is NOT ALLOWED: two or more spaces; underlined words; script colors other than black; indentation by spaces; manual hyphenation; automatic numbering (of numbered and marked lists) in chapters and paragraphs. All lists should be hand-set.

Formulas should be typed in a formula processor Microsoft Equation.

Latin letters are typed italicized, Greek and Cyrillic – non-italicized. Numbers are not italicized.

Formatting of tables and figures

Tables. Each table must have a title. The tables are numbered in the order they appear in the text, but if there is only one table in the article, it is not numbered. The word “Table” and its number are placed on the right (without a № sign and a full stop at the end), a thematic title of the table is placed under it (bold, lower case, centered). The text must contain a reference to the table (for example, Table 3), which should appear BEFORE the table. Below the table, its source is indicated (example of formatting).

Hyphenated table titles are not allowed.

Figures. The figures are numbered in the order they appear in the text, but if there is only one figure in the article, it is not numbered. The figure must be linked to the text with a reference, which should appear before the figure (for example, Fig. 2). A figure title consists of a word “Fig.”, its sequence number and a thematic title (bold, lower case, centered). If necessary, place a legend (decryption of symbols) under the figure title; a source must be also indicated (example of formatting).

All figures should be high quality. They can be inserted only via editors reliably compatible with Word. The figures MUST be submitted as separate files with indication of their sequence numbers (rules of formatting figures and tables).

Scanned figures and hyphenated titles are not allowed.

Abbreviations

Only common abbreviations are allowed – names of measures, physical, chemical and mathematical values and terms, etc. All abbreviations must be decoded, except a small number of common ones. The names of organizations are given in full when first mentioned in the text, with abbreviated name in brackets; further the abbreviated name is given. Example: Kazan Innovative university named after V.G. Timiryasov (further – KIU).

Manuscripts should be carefully checked and edited by the authors. The material should be structured, clearly and logically stated.

ARTICLE STRUCTURE

The order and formatting standards of the article elements are stated below:

  • Initials and surname of the author(s) (medium type, all capital letters).
  • Scientific degree, scientific title (medium type, italics).
  • Place of work, city, country (italics).
  • Title of the article (medium type, all capital letters).
  • Summary (no more than 250 words). It should be structured and include: objective, methods of research, research results, scientific novelty and practical value (example of a summary).
  • Key words (not less then 3 and up to 15 words, ordinary script, typed in a line, divided by a comma ","), no full stop in the end).
  • The text of the article should contain sections with headings (listed below). The headings should be centered (font size 14, medium type, 1.5 line spacing, full justification, all lowercase letters except the first one). He text is typed in font size 14, 1.5 line spacing, full justification.

Two types of the article structure are acceptable:

  1. If the article contains modeling, IMRAD structure is recommended.
  2. If there is no modeling, an author’s structure is acceptable, with paragraphs for keeping the line of discourse and obligatory “Introduction” and “Conclusion” sections.

IT IS NOT ALLOWED submitting an article written as a single text without paragraphs, as it complicates information perception.

The IMRAD structure

  • Introduction must contain introduction to the theme without a detailed literature review and finish with a problem statement (listing the research questions or hypotheses for checking), objectives and tasks of the research.
  • The research must contain a relevant literature review including the works both by foreign and Russian authors, with indications of their specific contributions. One should not merely list the surnames, like “The problem was researched by I.I. Ivanov, S.S. Sidorov, etc.”

It is recommended to indicate the resources where the relevant publications were taken, the criteria for selecting them, and the total number of the publications found. The Journal welcomes vast literature reviews and, realizing the growing volume of scientific-technical information, admits that there may be a lot of relevant sources. Hence, the Journal does not set limitations on the number of reference sources; however, we believe that, at the current level of themes elaboration, the reference list of less than 30 sources poses questions to the fullness of the author’s review and the research novelty (if the author proposes an original idea but has not checked all sources for its presence in the works by other researchers, how can they be sure of its novelty?)

  • The research method should be clearly stated. The author must substantiate why a particular method is used compared to other methods. In the articles with modeling, the basic formula and its modifications should be indicated, as well as the accompanying mathematical manipulations.

In case social research methods are used, the research design must be described, as well as the criteria for forming the sample, the procedure of polling/questioning/interviewing, the questions asked and the statistical tools of analysis.

The data must contain information about the resources (databases, statistical reports, etc.) indicating the accurate address of the location of the information used, as well as the features of preparing data for the research. When using non-standard methods of preparation, it is necessary to indicate the sources where it was used before.

  • The research results must be clear for understanding and described in detail. For all the results obtained, a relevant author’s interpretation must be given. The answers to the research questions must be clearly stated.
  • The Discussion section must clarify the significance of the results obtained and their correlation with the previously published works. This section provides the position of the present research in the ensemble of previous works, specifying how it complements the previously published works. This section may be a part of the “Discussion of the results” section.
  • References conclude the article. References are given in the Russian and English languages. All Russian language sources must be indicated exactly as in the section “For citation in the English language”.

In the list of references, each source must be placed in a new line. All works are listed in the alphabetic order. It is not recommended to refer to non-reviewed sources. In the text of the article the references are given in brackets (APA 7).

  • It is acceptable to use appendices for accompanying materials in the article.
  • Conflict of interests disclosure information.
  • The “Authors’ contributions” section concludes the article formatting.
  • The article was submitted to the Editorial Board (the date is indicated by the Journal’s executive Secretary on the day of receiving the materials).

Information about the author(s): surname, name and patronymic in full (font size 14, medium type), scientific degree, scientific title, position, place of work in full without abbreviations in the nominative case. On a new line: address and telephone number of the organization. E-mail, ORCID ID, Researcher ID, Elibrary ID.

Acknowledgments

This section contains gratitude to persons, personnel of organizations and funds, who promoted the research and the article preparation.

Financial support

This section contains sources of scientific research financing, if any.
